Westerschelde feasibility study

Project description

To investigate the feasibility of a bored tunnel in the Western Scheldt. The bored tunnel will be a 7 km traffic connection for dual two lanes. The tunnel will consist of two separate tubes of 13 m diameter at 7 m distance.

Scope of work

To assist and support Ministry of Public Works with the preparation of the Terms of References, the ventilation design, the overall design and cost estimation of the tunnel. Review of the Ministry of Public Works design and to participate in the checking of the contractors proposals.
In the report references and recommendations for the tunnel alignment, tube diameter, drainage, design principles and construction methods are made. Special consideration is given to the method of boring in the very variable existing soil conditions and the related risks involved with it. A detailed cost estimation on the basis of price per item is made.
