Although covering the design and engineering of all types of soft ground tunnelling, TEC is famous for their expertise in immersed tunnelling and world leading in this type of tunnelling. Since 1988, TEC has delivered design and construction solutions to the majority of the world’s most challenging and innovative tunnelling projects, such as the Øresund Link between Denmark and Sweden, the Busan Geoje Link in South Korea, the 32 km connection between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao in China and the 20 km Fehmarnbelt Link between Denmark and Germany.

Providing expertise at all stages of (immersed) tunnelling projects – from conception and initiation, to design, delivery and operation, we use our integral, innovative and sustainable approach to deliver a multidisciplinary range of consultancy services. These include feasibility studies, design, tender documents and evaluation, design reviews, cost analysis, detailed design and construction supervision.

Expertise

With strong parent companies, TEC draws on the expertise of both Royal HaskoningDHV and Witteveen+Bos to provide a wide range of civil and structural engineering skills required for small and large underground infrastructural projects. This means all relevant technical knowledge regarding design, construction, operation and management of road, rail and utility tunnels is combined in a single organisation, allowing an integrated approach to project implementation. Adjacent services, relevant for the implementation of tunnels in their environment can be provided by the parent companies (one-stop shopping).

We use our specialist knowledge of tunnel design and construction to solve complicated underground mobility challenges; in all project phases, from initiation to operation and maintenance.

TEC is a permanent joint venture partnership between two leading Dutch internationally operating engineering consultants Royal HaskoningDHV and Witteveen+Bos. The two parent companies are experts in their own right and in a much wider field in providing design and consultancy services to enhance society. The establishment of TEC in 1988 brought together their combined specific knowledge, expertise and experience in soft ground tunnelling, guaranteeing continuity for the successful delivery of every tunnel project.

The objective of the partnership is to combine the knowledge, expertise and experience of both parent companies in the field of underground infrastructure. A permanent partnership guarantees the continuity essential for maintaining wide-ranging and specialised knowledge required in the field of tunnel construction for roads and railways.

TEC specialists are connected to scientific institutes such as the Delft University of Technology and are participating in MSc courses and graduation boards.

TEC is founding member of the Centrum Ondergronds Bouwen (COB – Centre Underground Construction) a knowledge platform for Underground Construction established in 1995 initiated by the Dutch Public Works. TEC specialists are sharing / participating in various study / working groups and in various disciplines.
